György Spiró: The Imposter

Synopsis

To commemorate 250 years of public theatre in Poland, the Dramatic Theatre (Teatr Dramatyczny) presents the renowned play by the Hungarian writer György Spiró about the founding father of the Polish National Theatre: Wojciech Bogusławski. The Imposter picks up on the main theme of the novel The X-s (Az Ikszek) which had been banned in Poland in the eighties because of its mockery of national heros. Accused of slandering holiness, Spiró was prohibited to enter Poland at that time.   
  The action of The Imposter takes place in a theatre on the day of an opening night. The performance, which will hopefully save the theatre from bankruptcy, is going to be attended by the whole city of Vilnius, as the title role is going to be played by the guest artist – Wojciech Bogusławski. The plan might not fall through, since the master arrives only a couple of hours before the performance. Who is Bogusławski in the eyes of the Hungarian? A colourful character – troublemaker, buffoon, crosspatch and egoist, patriot and a remarkably bold man at the same time.
